Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has revealed that the target for this year’s Zakat Fund is set to exceed MVR 100 million, with the fund already receiving MVR 98 million—marking the highest amount ever recorded in the country’s history.

Speaking on the matter, Minister Dr Shaheem highlighted the growing success of the fund, stating that the aim is to raise at least MVR 100 million annually for zakat purposes.

He attributed the increase in donations to the establishment of a special institution for Zakat under the Administration of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, which has significantly contributed to the fund’s positive growth.

The Zakat Fund plays a crucial role in supporting individuals in need, in accordance with Islamic principles and judicial guidelines. Minister Dr Shaheem reaffirmed that the fund continues to provide extensive assistance to those who are deserving, offering critical support to the community.
