President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged citizens to seize the chance presented by the Hiyaavehi Financing Programme, calling it a golden opportunity. He made the appeal during his visit to North Huvadhu Atoll Maamendhoo on Wednesday.

The programme, offering housing loans at a maximum interest rate of five per cent, was launched in November 2024, following its initial announcement during the President's Independence Day address in July 2024.

Speaking to the Maamendhoo community, President Dr Muizzu announced that the Government has already allocated MVR 1.5 billion in this year's state budget for housing projects, with provisions for future increases. The initiative forms part of the Administration's primary policy objective to provide permanent housing solutions nationwide.

The President assured that the programme would enable citizens across the Maldives to transform their plots into suitable housing, referencing commitments made in the Dhiveheenge Raajje manifesto.

The Government aims to ensure every citizen has access to their first home before the end of the current Presidential term through housing units, loan schemes, or similar projects. This strategy addresses the acute shortage of housing, combining accessible financing with direct housing project development.
