The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has reported a record-breaking collection of Zakat al-Mal in 2024, marking the highest amount received in the country’s history.

According to MIRA data, total Zakat al-Mal collected by the end of 2024 reached MVR 101.9 million, reflecting a 12.9 per cent increase from the MVR 90.2 million collected in the previous fiscal year.

The upward trend was particularly evident in December, with MVR 9.7 crore received—51.5 per cent higher than the MVR 6.7 million collected in December 2023.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs attributed this significant rise to efforts by The Maldives Zakat House, which has actively worked to increase public awareness about zakat obligations. In a statement, the Ministry noted that this was the largest annual zakat collection on record.

Acknowledging the public’s commitment, the Ministry expressed gratitude to Maldivians for prioritising zakat payments. It also assured that all collected funds would be distributed to those in need in accordance with judicial procedures and established standards.
