The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced completion of the coastal protection project for R. Kinolhas.

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure awarded the project to MTCC on April 18, 2023, with physical works commencing in August of the same year.

The project scope included reclamation of 19,780 cubic metres of sand in eroded areas and the construction of a 650-metre revetment. The coastline protection was achieved using geo bag technology.

Kinolhas, home to more than 500 residents, has historically faced significant harbour-related challenges. The island previously struggled with harbour entrance sedimentation and shallow water depths. These issues were addressed in 2023 with the development of a new harbour facility.

The harbour development project, also executed by MTCC, was completed with a government investment of MVR 46.5 million.
