The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) continues its extensive search and rescue operation for Ali Mushfiq Mohamed Shareef, 25, from Laamu Maavah, who went missing following a fire on board the 'Holhudhoo Boat' on April 2, 2025.

The vessel, which was en route from Thaa Hirilandhoo to Malé City, caught fire at sea. Mushfiq was last seen jumping into the water to escape the flames. Of the 18 people on board, including the captain, 17 have been rescued. Mushfiq remains the only person unaccounted for.

According to MNDF, both aerial and maritime search efforts have been ongoing since the incident. So far, 133 nautical miles have been searched by sea, and diving operations have covered an area of 143,880 acres. Additionally, aerial searches have spanned approximately 5,000 square kilometres. Despite the exhaustive efforts, Mushfiq has not yet been located.

The ship eventually sank due to the severity of the fire. Authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the blaze, and investigations are ongoing.

Mushfiq, described as a promising young man known for his good character and dedication to religious matters, has been the focus of deep concern and sorrow within his community. His disappearance has prompted an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and residents of Laamu Maavah.

Search operations remain active as authorities continue efforts to locate him.
