President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting inclusion in sports and ensuring equal opportunities for all, in a message marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

In a special message released on the occasion, the President highlighted that this year’s theme “Levelling the Playing Field: Sports for Inclusion” aligns with the government’s vision to ensure inclusivity in sports, and guarantee equal access to sports, fitness, and opportunities, regardless of age, gender or race.

He announced several initiatives aligned with this vision, such as establishing fitness and recreation centres on every island over the next two years to ensure access to proper facilities. The President stated that this initiative will promote healthier lifestyles and mental well-being, while also serving as a hub for youth engagement, social inclusion, and community development.

President Dr Muizzu also revealed the plans for a 20-year National Sports Development Plan, which will focus on decentralising sports infrastructure, and ensuring that training and competitions are accessible nationwide.

He stated that by promoting fairness, accessibility, and diversity in sports, the nation can strengthen its social fabric while creating more opportunities. The President also called on the stakeholders, athletes, coaches, associations, and communities to support this initiative for the betterment of the nation.
