Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has forecasted heavy rain and thunderstorms across the country starting Tuesday. 

The MET forecasts showers and thunderstorms in the central and northern parts of the country within the next 24 hours. However, southern weather is expected to be generally better. 

Winds will be south to southwesterly in Southern atolls and west to southwesterly elsewhere at 3-13 miles per hour over the next 24 hours. 

The MET office also revealed that the seas will be moderately calm with a wave height of 1-3 feet. 

The MET office has advised the public to pay special attention to the weather especially when travelling by sea.
