Two Sri Lankan nationals have been arrested after police discovered a large quantity of liquor during an operation in Hulhumalé on April 09, 2025. 

The Maldives Police Service said the arrests were made around 09:55 p.m., when officers stopped and searched a vehicle suspected of transporting alcohol and a total of 54 bottles believed to be liquor were recovered from the vehicle.

The vehicle has since been towed and remains in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the suspects were acting independently or as part of a larger smuggling operation.

In a statement on social media, police confirmed that both individuals are currently being held while the case is under investigation.
