The Government has purchased 10,000 square feet of land in Hulhumalé for MVR 31.5 million to establish a 'Safe Home' facility for victims of domestic violence.
According to the Civil Court, the land acquisition was carried out under an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Planning, the Ministry of Social and Family Development, and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). The court registered the land sale case on July 15, 2024 and issued a ruling on the matter on Thursday.
The court confirmed that the Ministry of Finance and Planning paid MVR 31.5 million to purchase Lot No. 11707 (A2-1) in Hulhumalé, at a rate of MVR 3,150 per square foot.
The facility is part of the 'Strengthening Gender Inclusive Initiative' project, a programme implemented in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). In addition to Hulhumalé, similar 'Safe Home' facilities are planned for Addu City and Raa Atoll, aiming to provide secure and supportive spaces for individuals affected by domestic and gender-based violence.
