The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has opened the opportunity for interested islands to submit proposals to host this year’s Eid al-Adha celebrations.

Proposals will be evaluated in line with the procedures for determining islands to celebrate Eid al-Adha at the National Level, with the best proposals selected to determine the host islands. According to the Ministry, three islands in the country are scheduled to be part of this year’s Eid celebrations.

Interested islands are required to submit their proposals by email to the Ministry by 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

The initiative is part of the Government’s broader effort to give special attention to the national celebration of both Eid festivals. The most recent Eid al-Fitr was celebrated with vibrant and wide-ranging activities under the Eid Ali initiative, which began last year. The Ministry noted that this year saw increased participation from islands across the country.
