United Nation's General Assembly

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdullah Khaleel has clarified that the United Nation’s resolution on the “Cooperation Between the United Nations and the Council of Europe” bears no relevance to the Maldives.

In a post shared on X, the Minister addressed the misinformation being circulated online, emphasising that the Maldives voted in support of a resolution focused on protecting religious freedom.

The Minister clarified that the resolution on Cooperation Between the United Nations and the Council of Europe does not have any relevance to the Maldives, and it solely focuses on promoting cooperation in various fields between the UN and the Council of Europe.

This resolution was first submitted to the United Nation’s General Assembly in 2000, with voting taking place regularly since 2004. The Minister highlighted that since the voting began, the Maldives have always voted in favor of this resolution.

He stated that the Maldives always makes formal reservations whenever a resolution or any international action conflicts with the Maldives’ religious beliefs or cultural values.

Minister Dr Khaleel also urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to rely on official sources for accurate information.
