President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that cooperation and trust are essential to overcoming the greatest challenges facing the world today.

The President made these remarks via his official X account on the occasion of the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, observed each year on April 24.

In his message, the President said that peace requires more than the absence of war. He emphasised that it also demands dialogue, justice and collective action, especially in the face of global conflict, inequality and the climate crisis.

President Dr Muizzu added that multilateralism remains a source of hope in a divided world. He stated that through cooperation and trust, nations can work together to confront shared challenges and build a more equitable and sustainable future.

The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace was established by the United Nations to promote the peaceful resolution of disputes and to reaffirm the importance of multilateral cooperation in maintaining international peace and addressing global issues.

The Maldives has long upheld a foreign policy grounded in diplomacy, multilateralism and peaceful cooperation, maintaining diplomatic relations with over 170 nations and participating in various international and regional organisations, including the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Commonwealth.
