The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Said, has announced his intention to invite an Imam from the Holy Mosque to the Maldives on an annual basis.

On Facebook, Dr Shaheem explained that the initiative is intended to inspire and encourage the younger generation. He highlighted that the recent arrival of Sheikh Dr Salah Al Budair, Imam and Khatib of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, brought immense joy to imams, scholars, and the wider Maldivian community. According to Minister Dr Shaheem, the large congregations at the Salman Mosque and the Islamic Centre, where Sheikh Dr Salah led prayers, stand as a clear testament to the positive impact of his visit.

Minister Dr Shaheem further noted that Sheikh Dr Salah’s sermon was warmly received, during which he imparted twelve valuable and significant pieces of advice.

Looking to the future, Dr Shaheem stated that efforts are underway to invite Sheikh Dr Yasir al-Dawsari, Imam and Khatib of the Holy Mosque, to the Maldives next year. Should Sheikh Dr Yasir be unavailable, arrangements would be made to bring another distinguished Imam from the Holy Mosque. Sheikh Dr Yasir enjoys considerable popularity among Maldivians, many of whom admire his beautiful recitation and pleasant voice.

The Minister also expressed his gratitude to the President for his support and cooperation in facilitating these initiatives.
