Kaafu Thulusdhoo’s popular beach, known for attracting surfing tourists, has been protected and enhanced following the completion of a major shore protection project.

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure announced that the project, aimed at addressing the island’s longstanding erosion issues, has been successfully completed. The project, valued at MVR 40 million, was carried out by Heavy Force Private Limited.

The eastern side of Thulusdhoo beach had suffered significant erosion, resulting in the loss of several aged trees. As part of the protection works, six breakwaters made of large stones spanning 70 metres, two Y-groins made of large stones spanning 50 metres, and a 170-metre revetment were installed to safeguard the shoreline.

According to the Ministry, the completion of the project not only provides a permanent solution to the erosion problem but also enhances the island’s natural beauty, bringing added satisfaction to its approximately 2,000 residents.

Thulusdhoo is home to more than 30 guesthouses and hotels, offering around 550 beds for tourists.
