The Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen has been temporarily appointed as the Commissioner of Police. 

He was appointed following the resignation of former Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau yesterday. 

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, first stated that Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry has been temporarily appointed as the Commissioner of Police under the Maldives Police Service Act. 

However, he later announced the decision to appoint Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen as the acting Police Commissioner.

He further explained this decision, stating that the top priority for the Maldives Police Service is investigating the April 18 incident.

Therefore, the decision was made because Deputy Commissioner Naveen had been leading the investigation from the beginning.
