ID card and e-passport services inaugurated in Malaysia

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the service of issuing ID cards and e-passports abroad for the first time.
This service was officially inaugurated in Malaysia on 28 April 2025.
President Dr Muizzu inaugurated these services during his official meeting with the Maldivians living in Malaysia.
After the inauguration of these services, the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, handed over the first print of the Maldivian e-passport and ID card to the parents.
The Government stated that these services will be available from the High Commission of the Maldives in Malaysia, starting today.
In addition, a Maldivian Student Association was inaugurated to represent the Maldivian students living in Malaysia. Minister of Higher Education Dr Ali Haidar handed over the certificate highlighting the establishment of this association.
Addressing the Maldivians who participated in this function, President Dr Muizzu stated that the availability of these services in Malaysia will make it easier for families and students.
Highlighting that the Maldivian Student Association will have the Government’s full support, the President stated that USD 3,000 in Malaysian ringgits will be given to the Student Association yearly.
President Dr Muizzu was Accompanied by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, and Minister of Higher Education, Dr Ali Haidar.
This meeting was attended by Former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan, his spouse Madam Ilham Hussain, members of the Maldivian delegation, and numerous Maldivian families and students.
