President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) during his official visit to Malaysia.

The Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Islamic Leadership and Madani Development was presented at the IIUM Special Convocation 2025 by Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the Pahang Constituency Head of IIUM.

This is the first time a Maldivian has been conferred an honorary doctorate by IIUM. Following the presentation, President Dr Muizzu delivered a speech at the ceremony.

In a statement, IIUM said President Dr Muizzu has experience in urban planning and the development of policies based on modern techniques and Islamic principles.

IIUM, a leading public university currently ranked seventh nationally, has longstanding ties with the Maldives. To date, 380 Maldivians have graduated from the university, underlining its important role in strengthening educational links between the two countries..
