President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has designated Hirinaidhoo Island as part of Nellaidhoo Island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, by Presidential Decree No. 13/2025. 

This action was taken yesterday, under the authority granted by Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 07/2010).

This decision formalises including Hirinaidhoo as part of Nellaidhoo and amends Decree No. 2/2025, “Establishing Inhabited Islands in the Maldives” accordingly. It also authorised the official use of Dhivehi and English names of Hirinaidhoo for administrative purposes. 

This administrative change fulfills a pledge made by the President during his February 2024 visit to Haa Dhaalu Atoll. It aims to enable residents of Nellaidhoo to benefit economically from Hirinaidhoo.
