President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged families and communities to place greater emphasis on instilling a strong work ethic and practical skills in children, positioning disciplined and capable youth at the heart of the Maldives’ future development.

In his Labour Day address, the President stressed that preparing the next generation for meaningful employment is not merely a domestic concern but a vital national objective. He outlined a vision for a society where no one is left without access to productive opportunities, and where young people are equipped—morally and practically—to contribute effectively to the nation.

He highlighted the critical role of the country’s labour force in driving national progress, acknowledging the everyday contributions of workers in shaping the Maldives’ current trajectory. The President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to addressing public concerns and broadening avenues for economic participation.

Education, he noted, must be a key driver of this transformation. He advocated for reforms to the national curriculum to incorporate lessons on work ethic and vocational readiness, emphasising that schools should go beyond academic instruction to prepare students for real-world responsibilities with determination and accountability.

Drawing on religious values, the President underscored the honourable nature of labour in Islamic teachings. He encouraged individuals to approach work with sincerity and strength, reflecting both spiritual principles and civic duty.

His remarks reinforced the idea that national development relies not only on structural reforms and policy initiatives, but also on the values instilled in citizens from a young age. A culture rooted in integrity, discipline, and resilience, he affirmed, is essential to building a prosperous and inclusive future.
