MVR 55.5 million disbursed to scholarship students

The Government has disbursed MVR 55.5 million to students pursuing higher education under the scholarship scheme till April this year. 

The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development has revealed the latest statistics on students studying under the Scholarships and Free Degree scheme. 

Statistics revealed that the Government has disbursed MVR 55.5 million under the Scholarship scheme for 751 students until April this year. Of these, 34 students have completed their education, and 717 are still pursuing education. 

In addition, as of April, the Government has disbursed MVR 51.7 million under the Free Degree scheme. The funds are allocated to support 8,327 students across the country. 

The Ministry further revealed that they have received 1,338 student loan applications, including 913 new applications and 259 drop-out applications from students already studying under the loan. 

This year, a high priority will be given to those applying for courses in highly technical fields, with half of the loan scheme reserved for these fields. 

Statistics revealed that MVR 71 million has been disbursed as student loans as of February this year, with over MVR 805 million disbursed by the end of last year. 

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided that the student loans will be Shariah-compliant. With these decisions, student loans will not have interest or administrative fees.
