The People’s Majlis reconvenes today for its second session, with the review of Supreme Court judge nominations submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu high on the agenda.
The nominees will be referred to the relevant standing committee for detailed assessment before being presented to Parliament for approval.
In addition to the judicial appointments, Parliament will consider the president’s nominations for non-resident ambassadors to Nepal, Ukraine, and Ireland. It will also continue preliminary debate on the Civil Aviation Authority Bill, introduced by Dhaandhoo MP Mohamed Fazeel, which aims to improve regulation in the aviation sector.
The second session follows the conclusion of the first session on May 15, during which 77 per cent of submitted matters were completed, including the passage of nine bills. These included amendments to the Immigration Act, the Tobacco Control Act, and laws aimed at addressing gang-related crime.
The current session is scheduled to run until August 15.
