President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned Israel’s recent military assault on the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the act as a serious violation of international law and a threat to regional and global stability.

The condemnation was made public through the President’s official ‘X’ account, as tensions in the Middle East reached new heights following the controversial attack. President Dr Muizzu urged the international community to take urgent action to prevent further escalation and protect the sovereignty of nations.

The President also warned that the repercussions of unchecked military aggression could be catastrophic, not only for Iran, but also for neighbouring countries and the broader international community. He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and reaffirmed the Maldives’ support for diplomatic engagement and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The Israeli strike, which occurred earlier this week, reportedly targeted critical infrastructure related to Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes. According to media sources, the attack resulted in the deaths of high-ranking Iranian military officials, including Major General Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of Iran’s armed forces.

The Israeli government has not officially confirmed the operation, but intelligence sources suggest it was a pre-emptive move against what Tel Aviv claims to be an imminent threat from Iran’s missile capabilities.

The United Nations and several international organisations have expressed deep concern over the potential for further violence and instability.
