Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has emphasised the importance of cultivating a skilled Maldivian workforce over the next five years to realise President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision of transforming the Maldives into a prosperous economy.

Speaking at the launch of the National Human Capital Needs Assessment survey report at the Maldives National University Auditorium, the Vice President reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to economic development through workforce participation and employment creation.

He stated that President Dr Muizzu’s foremost goal is to make the Maldives a developed nation by 2040. In support of this vision, he underscored the need to increase Maldivian involvement in income-generating activities and significantly reduce unemployment across the country.

The Vice President noted that the Government is working to create enough job opportunities to ensure that no Maldivian remains unemployed within the next five years. He acknowledged progress already made and called for sustained, strategic efforts to achieve this ambitious target.

He highlighted key sectors such as tourism, construction, healthcare, and education, where the need for qualified professionals remains pressing. He added that under President Dr Muizzu’s leadership, new industries will be introduced, generating further demand for skilled labour and coordinated planning.

The Vice President also pointed to the introduction of special economic zones, international financial centres, bunkering operations, and sea–air cargo services as indicators of the nation’s drive to diversify its economy.

Concluding his address, the Vice President stressed that national development hinges on the emergence of capable Maldivians across all sectors. He called on Government institutions and the wider public to share the responsibility of building a skilled, stable, and economically resilient nation.
