The Gaafu Alifu Kondey Council has officially handed over land to the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare to launch a national food security project on the island. With 116 hectares of available land, Kondey will serve as a key site for cultivating staple produce and reintroducing traditional crops using modern agricultural methods. The initiative, part of the Government’s wider push for food self-sufficiency, will involve local farmers and is expected to expand to other suitable islands across the Maldives.
