The Minister of State for Homeland Security and Technology, Dr Mohamed Kinaanath, has stated that the upcoming Digital Identity Bill will have a positive impact on the Government’s digital identity platform, eFaas.

He made these remarks at the opening ceremony of a stakeholder consultation workshop held to gather feedback on the draft Digital Identity Bill. According to the State Minister, more than 260,000 individuals have already registered for eFaas, which currently serves as the Government’s official digital identity system.

Highlighting the importance of public confidence in digital platforms, Dr Kinaanath said the Government aims to ensure security across all digital services. He noted that the Digital Identity Bill will serve a central role in safeguarding user data while supporting the expansion of secure and reliable e-governance services.

The State Minister also added that the Government is actively working on a series of legislative initiatives as part of its digital transformation policy. The Data Security Bill and the Cyber Security Bill have already been submitted to the Attorney General’s Office, while drafts of the Maldives 2.0 Bill and the Artificial Intelligence Bill are currently in development.

Over 90 representatives from relevant institutions are participating in the workshop. The purpose of the event is to gather feedback and input ahead of finalising the second draft of the Digital Identity Bill.
