Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef held discussions with members of the South Thiladhunmathi Atoll Council, addressing a range of development challenges affecting the northern atoll.

During the discussion at the President's Office today, councillors highlighted key issues including inadequate housing infrastructure, limited transport connectivity, and the absence of a comprehensive waste management system. They noted that the insufficient number of scheduled flights to Kulhudhuffushi Airport continued to disrupt mobility and hinder access to services across the atoll.

The council reiterated the urgent need for new housing developments and pressed for accelerated timelines on existing construction projects. Waste management was raised as a critical concern, with councillors calling for systematic reforms to address delays and inefficiencies in service delivery.

Proposals were also made to strengthen community-based tourism, with emphasis on ensuring that economic benefits are distributed locally. In this context, councillors expressed interest in designating Faridhoo as a development zone to generate income and employment. They also requested greater urgency in the proposed relocation of residents from Hirimaradhoo due to persistent logistical constraints.

The Vice President acknowledged the issues raised and assured the council that the Government would consult with relevant institutions to seek practical solutions. He reiterated the Administration’s commitment to working closely with local councils to ensure that development priorities are implemented effectively across the country.
