Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has announced plans to reform outdated practices within the Ministry of Education in an effort to modernise administrative operations and better support schools across the Maldives.
Speaking during the third session of the High Achievers’ Award ceremony, the Minister stated that the Ministry is working to strengthen its internal management. He said changes will be made to long-standing administrative practices to ensure the Ministry can provide timely guidance, technical support, and policy direction to schools.
Dr Shafeeu also noted that the education sector’s budget was increased in 2025 compared to the previous year, with an additional MVR 300 million allocated to expand services and programmes for students. He added that the Government remains committed to ensuring adequate funding to support continued improvements in the education system in the year ahead as well.
In addition, the Minister stressed that improving the quality of education depends on increasing investment per student. He also highlighted ongoing difficulties in recruiting teachers and called on high-performing students to consider entering the profession. According to the Minister, producing capable, responsible citizens depends on having qualified, dedicated educators at the core of the system.
