The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development (MoHE) has announced efforts to secure funding to help Maldivian students in Malaysia cover a newly implemented 6 percent service tax on private education services. The Ministry stated that students on Government loans will be supported in meeting the new tax, while scholarship disbursements will include the tax once it appears on invoices. The tax, enforced from July 1, 2025, has raised concerns among students and parents due to the added financial burden.
