A boat carrying seven people, reported missing amid rough sea conditions, has been safely located, according to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

The Vilurodhi fishing boat, which departed from Villufushi, was reported missing on July 10, prompting a search operation by the MNDF Coast Guard. The vessel safely entered Villufushi harbour at approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 11, with all individuals on board accounted for.

The case was one of several maritime incidents reported to the Coast Guard, as deteriorating weather conditions continue to disrupt sea travel across various parts of the country. 

Authorities have attributed the spike in incidents to a developing cyclonic system in the western region and have advised against non-essential sea travel. The Coast Guard continues to urge the public to monitor official weather alerts and exercise caution at sea.
