Commodity prices have declined following government efforts to stabilise the economy and control the cost of goods and services.
According to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), month-on-month inflation fell by 0.4 per cent. Inflation, which had peaked at 5.7 per cent in April, has now decreased to 3.7 per cent.
A key factor behind this decline was the reduction in electricity tariffs during June. The steepest drop was recorded in power tariffs, which fell by 3.8 per cent. Household appliance prices also declined by 2.34 per cent.
Food prices, however, remained high. Prices of fruits and vegetables rose by 3.20 per cent, milk and milk products by 1.22 per cent, and vegetables by 0.83 per cent. Data also showed an increase in the prices of sugar, jam, and honey.
In contrast, housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel costs fell by 0.53 per cent, mainly due to lower electricity tariffs.
Fish prices declined by 1.20 per cent in June, largely due to a 7.42 per cent drop in marine fish, while dried fish fell by 2.00 per cent.
The Government has introduced several measures to curb rising prices. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced a special electricity discount and introduced adjustments to reduce charges within billing bands.
