The Housing Development Corporation (HDC), in collaboration with the National Mental Health Department and the Ministry of Health, has supported a community reintegration programme for residents of the Guraidhoo Special Needs Centre.

The programme is part of ongoing efforts to reintegrate individuals who are ready to return to family life following treatment. Fourteen residents participated in this phase, some of whom are scheduled to be reunited with their families.

As part of the initiative, HDC welcomed participants to Hulhumalé, offering them a tour of daily life in the city. Activities included visits to public spaces, family meals, time spent with selected families, prayers in congregation, and recreational events held in Central Park.

HDC also donated essential equipment to the participants to support their transition.

The Guraidhoo Special Needs Centre currently provides care for nearly 200 individuals who require support from the State, including many with mental health conditions. According to official statistics, 33 individuals have been successfully reintegrated into family settings over the past six years.
