The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Fuvahmulah City Council have held discussions on upgrading and further developing Fuvahmulah City Airport.

The meeting, held at the council office, was attended by MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq, senior MACL officials, and council members.

Discussions focused on service challenges at the airport, procurement of essential facilities and equipment, and the need for a comprehensive study to assess current conditions. Both sides also exchanged views on modernising airport services and shared information on MACL’s development priorities since assuming management of the facility.

Fuvahmulah Airport, first opened in November 2011, currently operates with a 1,200-metre runway. Previous studies conducted last year explored the feasibility of extending the runway to 1,800 metres to accommodate jet landings, along with plans to expand the passenger terminal and establish a dedicated tourism zone.

MACL said it will continue working with the council to advance these initiatives and ensure the airport meets growing passenger and tourism needs.
