Practical work on the new hospital in Kaafu Thulusdhoo is set to begin in the final week of this month, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has confirmed.
The project will deliver a 30-bed hospital designed to enhance healthcare services for the island’s 1,600-plus residents. MTCC said site preparations, including cleaning and fencing, have already been completed and equipment required for the development has been delivered to the island.
Alongside the main hospital building, the project will feature a 1,729.10 square-foot health centre block, a 238.11 square-foot service block, and a 167.63 square-foot accommodation block. Facilities planned for the health centre include doctors' rooms, medical wards, private rooms, a laboratory, operating theatre, maternity room, X-ray and ultrasound services, an emergency unit, and a public health unit.
With an estimated cost of MVR 101.7 million, the project is a major investment in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Thulusdhoo, which currently relies on a 24-hour health service centre.
