Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla has held talks with his Pakistani counterpart, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the Maldives and Pakistan.

The discussions took place during Speaker Abdul Raheem’s official visit to Pakistan, from 16 to 20 September 2025. Both sides highlighted the long-standing ties between the two nations and identified opportunities to expand collaboration through parliamentary channels.

Speaker Abdul Raheem emphasised that the re-establishment of the Maldives–Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group under the 20th People’s Majlis would enhance institutional ties. He also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued support to the Majlis, noting that the new Parliament building in Malé stands as a symbol of the partnership between the two countries.

The Maldivian Speaker further reiterated the Maldives’ support for the Palestinian cause, condemning the ongoing persecution in Gaza. He recalled the recent amendment to Maldivian law barring entry to Israeli passport holders as part of the country’s broader stance of solidarity with Palestine.

Speaker Abdul Raheem is accompanied on the visit by MPs Mohamed Shahid (Hulhudhoo), Husnee Mubarik (Manadhoo), Yoosuf Nasheed (Gan), and Abdulla Shazeem (Hulhumalé Central). The delegation is scheduled to attend a series of engagements in Islamabad, including parliamentary meetings and official luncheons hosted by the Pakistani National Assembly.
