The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has awarded the Road Development Corporation (RDC) to install a new sewerage system in N. Manadhoo, replacing the island’s aging network.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony on Monday, with State Minister Hassan Rasheed representing the ministry and RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem signing on behalf of the company. The project is worth MVR 71.2 million and is scheduled for completion within 700 days

Under the plan, RDC will construct a modern gravity-based sewerage system, comprising new pipelines, a pumping station, sewer junctions, and an outfall, to safely discharge treated wastewater. The upgrade is designed to handle the island’s growing population and address frequent service disruptions caused by the current system.

This initiative reflects the government’s broader push to complete water and sewerage projects initiated by previous administrations, while upgrading and expanding infrastructure in communities that now require more robust services.
