President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s trip to Vaavu Fulidhoo has been described as historic by the island’s council president, who noted that it is the first time a Maldivian president has visited the island outside of an election campaign.

The visit took place as part of the President’s eight-day tour of 31 inhabited islands in Vaavu Atoll. Speaking at the community meeting, Fulidhoo Council President Mohamed Imthiyaz said the occasion reflected the President’s interest in listening directly to citizens and addressing their concerns.

The council president noted that the visit was unprecedented, as no sitting president had previously come to Fulidhoo outside campaign season. He added that it reflected President Dr Muizzu’s intent to connect with residents and address their concerns directly.

Fulidhoo residents outlined several concerns during the meeting, with the President assuring that their input would be reflected in future Government planning.
