Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel and Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim have departed for New York to attend the High-Level Week of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).
As part of their visit, both Ministers will jointly take part in a panel discussion at a side event of UNGA80. The session will spotlight a decade of climate action in the Maldives, reflecting on progress since the Paris Agreement, highlighting collaboration, and charting pathways for resilience.
In addition, Minister Thoriq will participate in a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings aimed at strengthening partnerships for a greener and more sustainable future.
The 80th session of the UN General Assembly, held under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights,” comes at a pivotal moment to renew global commitment to multilateralism, solidarity and collective action. This year’s High-Level Week will also emphasise the urgency of delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals and revitalising international cooperation.
