A power disruption that affected parts of Hulhumalé on Saturday was caused by an attempt to damage a STELCO-operated substation, according to the State Electric Company Limited.

The outage began at around 3:30 a.m. after a network feeder at the Phase II substation was switched off, disrupting electricity to several residential towers, including the Hiyaa flats. Power was fully restored by 4:56 a.m., STELCO confirmed.

The company stated that the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities, with investigations already underway. It warned that such actions endanger public safety and create considerable inconvenience for residents.
