President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a wide-ranging development programme to revitalise the fisheries sector and fast-track infrastructure projects in Meemu Mulah, during his ongoing tour of four atolls.

The President highlighted key measures to boost the island’s fishing industry, including construction of a 30-tonne ice plant, a cold-storage facility already under way, and a fuel-skid project scheduled to start in January. He stated that these efforts form part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to modernise the fisheries sector and reverse years of decline.

Mulah will also see significant infrastructure investment. Work on 50 new housing units is planned for this year, while harbour improvements will be accelerated and long-standing coastal erosion concerns addressed. The island’s health centre will be upgraded to hospital status, with immediate commencement of works.

Additional projects include completion of road upgrades and a new Fitness and Recreation Centre within four months, construction of an eastern jetty before March next year, and expansion of the local school in time for the new academic year.

The President further pledged to resolve a 14-year shortage of police vehicles on the island by October, underscoring the Administration’s commitment to both community welfare and economic growth.
