Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has criticised opposition politicians for planning street protests against corruption, urging them to reflect on their own record while in office.

In a post on X on Tuesday, the minister said corruption remains the country’s biggest challenge and stressed that the most effective way to address it is to prevent it while in positions of authority and to enforce the law against those who commit corrupt acts. He added that this is the approach being pursued by the current Administration.

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is preparing to stage a protest this Friday against corruption. During its most recent term in government, a special audit by the Auditor General’s Office revealed that Fenaka Corporation had engaged in fraudulent transactions worth MVR 2.2 billion.
