Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Alqahtani, has described relations between the two nations as a “successful model of cooperation” built on friendship, shared values, and growing partnership.

Speaking in Malé at a ceremony to mark the 95th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ambassador recalled the establishment of formal diplomatic ties on 17 March 1981, noting that the countries are now celebrating the 44th year of relations.

“Saudi Arabia has always stood firmly with the Maldivian people. Our friendship has remained strong, and today I can proudly say that our relationship is growing stronger day by day under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Excellency President Mohamed Muizzu,” he said.

Ambassador Alqahtani emphasised that bilateral ties have progressed from traditional diplomacy to a “true brotherhood” based on shared interests and political will to strengthen cooperation in all areas. He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, led by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, as a platform for expanding partnerships internationally, including with the Maldives.

The Ambassador outlined key sectors where Saudi Arabia continues to support the Maldives, including infrastructure, healthcare, fisheries, agriculture, aviation, tourism, education, youth development, renewable energy, and environmental protection. He also stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to peace, stability, and sovereignty in the region.

“We are grateful for the warm friendship and support of the Maldives, and we extend appreciation to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, under whose administration our ties are reaching new heights,” he said, adding that with the blessings of Allah, the partnership will continue to grow for the benefit of both nations, the region, and the world.

On behalf of the Kingdom, Ambassador Alqahtani conveyed gratitude to the Government of Maldives, President Dr Muizzu, and the Maldivian people for their longstanding friendship and hospitality.
