Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Vice Chairman Hussain Afeef has emphasised the need to strengthen transport connections between airports and tourist establishments as the Maldives continues to develop new airports across the country..

Speaking at a ceremony held to mark Maldives Tourism Day, he noted that transport has consistently been one of the most significant challenges facing the industry since its introduction.

Afeef highlighted that with more airports being built, the sector must prepare to meet future demand with adequate staff, vehicles, seaplanes, and the necessary infrastructure to move tourists efficiently.

He cautioned that without careful planning, the Maldives could face challenges similar to those seen in the early days of tourism. He warned that airport expansions could pose difficulties if the transport sector does not keep pace with the expected increase in arrivals.
