First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has highlighted the vital contributions of women serving in policing, defence, customs, immigration, and other uniformed services, describing them as both protectors of communities and role models for future generations.
Addressing participants, the First Lady highlighted the growing complexity of today’s security landscape, citing cybercrime, human trafficking, violent extremism, and climate-related threats as areas where women’s involvement is increasingly vital. She emphasised the importance of empathy and representation in law enforcement, noting that victims, particularly women and children, are more likely to come forward when they see themselves reflected in those who serve.
Urging the creation of inclusive workplaces where women are treated as equals rather than exceptions, she called on participants to continue reshaping the meaning of justice. As part of the opening ceremony, the First Lady also unveiled the official Maldives Women in Police Challenge Coin, introduced to honour the contributions of female officers.
The three-day Maldives Women in Policing Summit 2025 is being held at CROSSROADS Maldives under the theme “Empowered Women: Safer Communities.” The event brings together national stakeholders and international partners, including representatives from UNODC, Interpol, UNICEF, and UNDP, alongside female officers from across Maldivian security and law enforcement agencies.
