Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has described teachers as the architects of nation building, stating that no profession carries greater honour or responsibility. He made the remarks in a video message to celebrate International Teachers’ Day, observed globally on 5 October.

Minister Dr Shafeeu underscored the crucial role of teachers in shaping future generations, emphasising that beyond imparting knowledge, they instil values, manners, and character. He described teaching as the most honourable and influential profession, with teachers holding unmatched responsibility in guiding societies towards progress.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession”, the Minister urged educators to work collectively to enhance their skills and strengthen the teaching process. He added that the Government remains committed to supporting teachers through collaboration with stakeholders, improving capacity, and expanding technical training opportunities.

According to the Ministry of Education, Over 11,000 teachers currently serve across the Maldives. To further address workforce challenges, a national teacher training programme has been launched to increase capacity and ensure the continued development of the education sector.
