The Fofalha Gau (RF 1185) lagoon has been designated as part of Alifu Dhaalu Kun’burudhoo to provide additional space for housing and economic opportunities, addressing longstanding concerns over the island’s limited land and facilities.

The decision by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, under the Decentralisation Act, was made in response to a proposal from Kun’burudhoo residents, and enacted through Decree No. 28/2025. It updates Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 of 5 February, which defines the Maldives’ inhabited islands.

The change is currently reflected in the Government Gazette’s revised list of inhabited islands.
