The Auditor General’s Office (AGO) has proposed a budget of MVR 134.5 million for the upcoming year, requesting parliamentary approval for the allocation.

The proposed amount represents an increase of MVR 20 million compared to the budget approved for the current year. Auditor General Hussain Niyazy, accompanied by senior officials from the AGO, presented the proposal to the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee during a meeting held on Tuesday.

According to the AGO, the proposed budget comprises MVR 89 million for recurrent expenditure and MVR 3 million for capital expenses. Additionally, MVR 41.5 million has been allocated for projects under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP).

Addressing the committee, Niyazy stated that the proposed budget includes allocating senior auditors to different departments, highlighting that seven units of 22 departments are short on senior auditors.

He further highlighted that the pay raise under the National Pay Harmonisation Framework has also increased the expense on salaries to MVR 9.1 million.
