Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has said that developing the health sector remains a key priority of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, crediting recent progress to the efforts of healthcare workers and sustained Government commitment.

He made the remarks while addressing the eighth Islamic Conference of Health Ministers, held in Amman, Jordan, from 7 to 9 October. The Minister also called on OIC member states to work together to end ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, emphasising the importance of peace for sustainable health development.

The three-day meeting brought together heads of state, health experts, and ministers from across the OIC to review progress under the organisation’s Strategic Health Programme of Action, evaluate current health challenges, and design a strategic plan for the next decade. Delegates discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and improve health outcomes across member states.

The last Islamic Conference of Health Ministers was hosted by the United Arab Emirates in December 2019.
