The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has appointed Reesham Mohamed Shareef as the fishermen’s representative on its Board of Directors. The appointment was made following President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to include a member representing fishermen on the board. The Government has recently taken several steps to strengthen MIFCO’s operations and ensure prompt payments to fishermen, with the company now able to settle dues within 48 hours during peak fishing periods. Additionally, the Government has released millions of rufiyaa previously withheld by the former administration.
