The Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture has conducted a Training Programme on Tuna Processing and Value-Added Product Development for Women across multiple islands this month, aiming to empower women through skills development in the fisheries sector.
The two-day programme was first held on 5 October 2025 at Kurendhoo Island in Lhaviyani Atoll, with 26 participants.
The training focused on tuna processing techniques, quality handling, and the development of value-added products. Participants also received guidance on marketing strategies to enhance the commercial potential of their products.
According to the Ministry, the programme is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen women’s participation in fisheries-based livelihoods and promote small-scale entrepreneurship in the Maldives’ tuna industry.
