President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding agriculture in the Maldives to strengthen national food security.

In a post on his X account to commemorate National Farmers’ Day, the President extended greetings to all those contributing to the agricultural sector, highlighting the importance of the industry in ensuring access to healthy food and a sustainable future.

He noted that Maldivians have long demonstrated the potential of the nation’s soil to yield a variety of crops and expressed confidence in revitalising local farming to reduce reliance on imports.

The Government has prioritised promoting agriculture as a distinct industry, with the establishment of a dedicated Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare to support farmers through training, equipment, and market access.

As part of these efforts, a large-scale agricultural project is planned for Uthuru Thila Falhu, aimed at boosting domestic production and ensuring a stable supply of nutritious food across the country.
